18th Febuary

The  first match since the ice and snow melted and with all that cold water we were all unsure how well it would fish…

Bernie Fraser, Colemans Cottage, peg 9, 40-12-0
This was not the sort of match to be dropping a fish at thenet because ounces were crucial as the top three were only 6oz's apart, andthere method's were all similar as well down the track with either maggot orpellet to the hook and very little feed, Bernie just edged it with a good bagof carp upto 6lb

Lester Bishop, Lake John Fishery, peg 16, 40-8-0
Lester was in the company of England vet Dicky Carr draw onthe next peg, Lester very quickly found a few bites down the track and thismatch couldn't get any closer, Lester may not have won but he did smack Dicky'sarse.

Chris Vandervleit, Maver-Image-Bowlers, peg 24, 40-6-0
Chris was really not happy with the final call on the scalesas he could only manage third and misses out on those county champ points, again down the track and it was a dropped carp of about 8lb that has cost Christhe match……………………………….good, how dare you question my decision on the scales, and I hope that by the time you read this you have lost a pound to me in thenext round of the Milo league

Dicky Carr, Drennan, peg 17, 23-12-0
Roy Makins, GOT Baits, peg 14, 21-0-0
Charley Clark, Sensas-Angling Direct, peg 1, 19-0-0

Chris VanderCheat has done it again yet another victory for the man with the biggest mirror in Abridge, picture above with second place Dicky Carr and I took the oppourtunity to capture the luckest man in fishing along side Angling  Ace Gary Miller who was just passing, I asked Gary to give Chrissy V he's well earned dosh, so I could give him a bit more stick on the website, Chris your just a lucky git...

Chris Vandervliet, Bowlers-Maver-Image, peg 10, 24-4-0, essex

The cheat has decided to join the Saturday open scenerecently,  and on a day where it was tuff for all Chris managed to fine a few fish on the pellet 2m from the far bank with just a small offering of loose fed pellet, Chris gets his Cheat title from myself as he seem's to beat me lately by catching a bonus carp or two, the cheat, I dont know if you noticed but Chris didn't want his picture taken with Gary so he pulled his hood over his face because he was in fear of what I was going to say about him, well i said it all in the main heading, next stop will be Fisherman's Blue's so I can really give it to him

Dicky Carr, Drennan-VDE, peg 16, 20-0-0, herts

Dicky show's he has still got what it take's to compete with the top boys, he fished a different match today and wasted to much time fishing down the track when the better fish were actually across to the far bank

Martin Amos, Sensas-Angling Direct, peg 19, 17-12-0, herts

Lucky old Amos

Barry Oliver, Maver-Image, peg 8, 15-8-0, middlesex

Cuffley based Charley Clark replaced last weeks second place into a first place this week, way to go Charley you done it, and what will you spend all that dollar on, maybe sort that hair out, next time leave your hat on for the photo's aye... lol

Charley Clark, Sensas-Angling Direct, peg 16, 29-4-0

Charley, Charley, Charely she make's it to the top of the pile beating some established names this week, after a very respectable second last week this girl is kicking some serious butt,  fishing a tidy match down the centre track drip feeding every bite, soft 4mm expander pellet to the hook and a bed of micro pellets was just the job for a mixed bag of carp, roach , skimmers and bream, Charley pictured about holding more dollar than second place Chris Vandervelit, a fishing hero and ex Essex County Champion

Chris Vandervelit, Bowlers-Bait Tech, peg 5, 25-12-0

Well what can I say Chrissy V sat next to me and once again proved to me what a lucky angler he is, he has foul hooked so many fish and had the cheek to put them in the net, fishing punched bread and dropping his bait in randomly on all lines, without loose feeding, this seems to be the method on this bottom lake at the moment, small carp and another £5 side bet from me which are the rules when Mr V and me draw next to each other, Happy New Year mate

Glen Butler, Bowlers, peg 1, 19-4-0

Glen Boy has started to get to grips with this place and with only a short trip from his home in Theydon Bois I don't think this is the last we will see of him, carp on the punched bread across to the far bank, all foul hooked the jammy dodger

John Young, Lake John Fishery, peg 3, 17-0-0

It was Christmas come early for ex-Southend Farm bailiff Dave Elliott, Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas everyone….

Dave Elliott, Southend Farm, peg 19, 34-12-0

This is the first open match I can ever remember Dave fishing so it really was a early crimbo payout as Dave fished punched bread just to the right of his peg outside the margin, it was carp that made the most of his weight and the lake seemed to fish ok on the eve of Santa arriving, I couldn't be putting a picture of Dave on the results page he's far to old and he's ugly bless him, well done Dave and he seemed keen to get booked on for next weeek lol...

Charley Clark, Sensas-Angling Direct, peg 24, 33-4-0

Charley pictured above very nearly made this her match catching carp down the centre track on pellet, a look down the peg long has probably cost her first place as the best line of her was down the track, this is the same peg that Charley became a you tube star, type Charley Clark at Lake John into the you tube search bar and watch her landing a carp with a little bit of commentary.

Lester Bishop, Lake John Fishery, peg 12, 24-0-0

Way to go Lester and you nicked a dollar from Swanny, this was a close match considering the weather and temperatures recently

Glen Butler, Bowlers, peg 17, 23-8-0

Glen Butler, Bowlers, peg 19, 30-8-0

Glen boy doesn't get tot the lake that often but getting the low down over breakfast he too punched bread and enjoyed himself

There was only one star that shone so bright he fished it well, he fished it right and with pride, it was that gay boy Mr Paul Hyde…

Lucky, lucky, lucky that's all I've got to say, o yeah and no-one likes him, lol

Lester Bishop, Lake John Fishery, peg 5, 20-4-0

Well done Lester a proper performance from a proper nice chap unlike Hydie

Ray Webb, Lake John Fishery, peg 16, 19-0-0

Well done uncle Ray, just wished you bashed Paul Hyde still there's always next week.

Roy Makins, GOT Baits, peg 21, 16-6-0

Not feeling the love as Granty books on, books off, and then books on again wots all that about...but still he done a sterling job dressing up as Santa just to get into the the spirit of things as you can see he has ditched the white beard and fluffy hat but keeps the red hoody on, top man

Paul Grant, Sensas-Angling Direct, peg 9, 38-0-0
Granty baby slips a first place slot this week as we see a slight up turn in performance from the lake this week, catching on bread punch down the centre track, well at least his fishing was more positive than his arrival, but look at his little round face he looks so pleased with himself, Granty makes it back  to the Saturday scene after a lay off due to the fact he sat on several of his top kits, bless them top kits didn't  stand a chance and with a big birthday last week his age and waist line are nearly the same as he Celebrates the big 40, Happy Birthday for last week mate these words are of course written with a small slice of love... lol, it was your gay pal Hydie that told me your were 40...

Colin Fuller, Lake John Fishery, peg 4, 27-0-0
Colin caught across to the far bank with red maggot to the hook giving him just the edge on young Charley Clark
and it was only 4oz that secured second place

Charley Clark, Sensas-Angling Direct, peg 24, 26-12-0
Charley, Charley, Charley well done my girl another solid performance from this young starlet,
catching on maggot down the centre track giving the lads a run for there money and then taking there money, and giving
Roy Makins a little drop of cream in with the bargain....

Paul (GAY) Hyde, Sensas- Angling Direct, peg 6, 27-4-0
Paul's had to search for the fish as everyone struggled. He pinched a few down the left hand margin and down the middle in the deeper water. With 10 minutes he was in second spot, but a 8lb carp nursed in on light tackle was enough to leapfrog Peg 21, cheers Graham for writing the report this week but far too polite you haven't made any reference to his long nasil hair, receeding hair line and Body Odur
.....lol ....Love this bit of my job

Colin Fuller, Lake John, peg 21, 23-0-0
Bread to the far side and pellet down the track earned Colin second spot and a nice few quid.

Ray Webb, Lake John, peg 19, 15-12-0
One of Lake John's stalwarts, Ray gave 'em all a lesson biz today. Maggot over micro pellet tight to the nearside rushes for carp and silver fish. Well done Mr Webb.

Mild conditions are not making for great match weights, but a late run of crusians gets Andy Gregory a victory this week

Andy Gregory, Milo-Borden, peg 17, 21-4-0
Andy set out his match fishing light lines and small hooks down the track with a maggot to the hook and it was to his frustration as he like everyone this week was biteless for the most of the match,
but being an old hand at the game Andy kept working his lines and this resulted in a run of 10 crusian carp in the last 30 minutes helped him nick victory, I was going to gob Andy off this week using my power over the internet, but I could be bothered....

Roy Makins,GOT Baits, peg 11, 19-8-0
Roy moaned his head off in the cafe about this peg so much so he was thinking of going home,
but this just goes to show boys and girls that fishing is there to be enjoyed and win lose or draw its all about the day out,
Maggot down the track after the pellet proved biteless.

Paul Reddy, Lake John Fishery, peg 3, 18-8-0
Paul once again draws spot on as he does most weeks, maggot tight to the far bank and down the track

Paul Hyde, Sensas-Angling Direct, peg 3, 44-8-0
Its not about skill or abillity when your draw as well as Paul, and you dont even need a personallity as Paul proves week in and week out, this peg is on form and it can make any angler look good, there was a blind chap in there the day before and he had 25lb so it just shows you how good it is, Paul has spent most of the match across to the far bank bread, maggot and pellet were the baits that rotated the hook, a few silver fish but there were more carp that bulked the final weight lucky, lucky git....
Lester Bishop, Lake John Fishery, peg 19, 20-2-0
In contrast Lester is a very nice chap and produced a fair weight from a peg that has not produced all year so a clear winner in my opion, small carp and silvers
Paul Law, Garbolino-Apollo, peg 16, 20-0-0

Martin Amos, Sensas-Angling Direct, peg 19, 31-8-0
Similar tactics from Martin for an identical net of fish. He’s been on a stunning run of form lately and his bank manager must be pretty pleased with him.

Today it was,  Reddy.....Steady.....Go, for the Golden peg was worth winning....

Paul Reddy, Lake John, peg 3, 71-4-0, golden peg

Paul made an early pellet selection as he fished 4mm expander down the centre track and across to the far bank, carp 2lb to 3lb were there to be had and he made the most of peg for sure.

Paul Hyde, Sensas-Angling Direct, peg 7, 64-8-0

Hyde'y High... had another good days sport catching well down the track silvers and carp, pellet was also the preferred bait as the night time temperatures drop and the cold winter nights finally catch up with us.

Colin Fuller, Lake John, peg 5, 58-8-0

Its fair to say that last week was a poor show in these pegs and the fish were very few in numbers in this area but this just goes to prove that the fish can swim, Colin fished expander pellet across to the far bank

It was the meat that was today’s treat as Mr Hyde leads the rest on his golden peg, carp and skimmers and with his 4mm cubes and meat and pellet fed through a toss pot fishing tight to the far bank, Paul takes an impressive £180 home today I just hope the missies doesn't log on the website cos i'm sure he told her he's no good at this fishing lark...... well he aint really he just gets lucky alot, lucky old Paul.....lol.

Kevin puts in a fine performance on a fine peg at the moment, fishing down the peg towards the corner catching slightly bigger carp that bulked up his final weight.

Paul Dunn, J+B Tackle, peg 5, 60-0-0, London

Andy Gregory, Milo-Borden, peg 14, 82-12-0 herts
Andy didn’t fancy this peg when it was drawn at the café and didn’t rush down to take up the challenge that was ahead of him, but this was a typical commercial fishery attitude to a slightly out of form peg, but the fish swim so well and while they are under water they can be in any peg and here is the proof Andy was soon shocked to the amount of fish in the peg, down the track the match started well and just got bigger and better, a mixture of fish caught on a variety of corn, meat and pellet to the hook

At last you get to see the man behind the mask, Andy Gregory pictured left saying Hi to all his fellow anglers, and again pictured right with a right royal face on, such a funny funny guy...

While the country was watching a royal wedding we at Lake John hosted a two day knock up and whilst it was well attended both days only nine anglers could make the two days and the chance of winning some royal wedding extra wonga.....

Colin Fuller will soon be hosting his own wedding so today's winnings are all very welcome, especially when you win off the golden peg aye Col...

Colin Fuller, Milo-Borden, 62-0-0, peg 1, Golden peg, Herts
The method on the lake in the past weeks has been bread punched to the hook with a mixture of loose fed micro pellet, fishing the entire range of the peg just lining the fish up and keeping busy is the order of the day, Col had a mixed bag of fish and a busy day on a very close run match

Martin Amos, Bedwell Fisheries, 59-8-0, peg 23, Herts
Martin had a nightmare in the first day of the series so he was a little more bearable by the end of the second leg as he scooped all the points, pellet for Martin down the track and across to the far bank

Roy Makins, GOT Baits, 57-0-0, peg 5, Herts
Just back for a cruse Roy gets straight back into the swing of things with a third spot and a few more county champ points

Paul just kept it steady putting fish in the net and took the bonus carp in his stride as and when they came along, pellet and corn to the hook catching on all lines, its easy when you know how

Den Jarvis makes the most of his first return to the lake this year and has a good match on the pellet.

1st. Den Jarvis, Hollow Angling, peg 16 44-08-0 Essex
Welcome back Den, Dennis started his match across to the far bank and had a good response early which is always a confidence builder after a break from a venue, small carp were on the feed but it was a change down the centre track that produced even more bites while he was resting his long line, again small carp and skimmers as well trickling micros through a kinder pot

2nd. Roy Makins, GOT Baits, peg 20 40-08-0 Herts
Roy also had a good start and caught from the off and both Den and Roy could see each other across the bank and continued to battle it out for first place, it was pellet all the way for Roy which is handy as he gets all his pellet for nothing.

3rd. Paul Dunn, J+B Tackle, peg 23 39-08-0 London
There's a pattern forming here as a few pegs down the bank Paul has also caught on the pellet, small carp and skimmers

The temperatures have plummeted since last weeks 50lb hauls, so you wont be surprised to read a slight dip in catch rates, as the top two battle it out as the golden peg is saved for the second week.

1st. Barry Oliver, Maver-Image, peg 24 29-00-0, London
Barry makes this a rare visit to the bottom lake and draw's top draw as he is on last weeks winner, small carp down the track with very little loose feed and maggot to the hook kept the big man amused for the most part....

2nd. Andy Gregory, Milo-Borden, Golden peg 10 26-04-0, Herts
Andy was geared up to take home all the jackpot money and was in the grove fairly quickly, maggot down the track and again with very little feed going in, but there were a few silver fish amongst a couple of better carp

3rd. Kevin O'Brien, Lake John, peg 17 18-02-0, Herts
Kevin is enjoying his fishing at the moment catching fish on both lakes and it was a late change to bread punch that really boosted the fish into a feed frenzy, Kevin told me after that he wished he had made the change earlier but alas fishing is like that mate, well done Kev a few more scalps to your collection, small carp in the margins

Big weights this week as the carp come out of hiding, and Darren Clark saves the golden peg money in a very close match...

1st. Darren Clark, Lake John-Angling Direct, peg 24 55-08-0, Herts
Darren had a steady match down the centre track fishing towards golden peg 1 and switching between pellet and maggot Darren was able to keep his eye on his nearest rival, near enough all carp between 1lb and 4lb, his match was strong all the way into the last hour where the wheels started to come off a little but the hard work in the early part of the match paid off, as Darren saved not one but two golden pegs.

2nd. Paul Hyde, Angling Direct-Sensas, golden peg 1, 50-04-0, Essex
Paul fished his peg long tight to the far bank and it was the bread punch that created the better bites and if the bites slowed then a quick change to the maggot soon got a few more fish, amazingly Paul did not loose feed any bait during the match just his hook bait the tight git...

3rd. Colin Fuller, Milo-Borden, peg 10 46-12-0, Herts
Just back from his winter hols, Colin soon got back in the swing of things catching on the bread punch also across to the far bank, small carp kept the silver fish out of the peg on what we all thought was going to be the winning weight but instead Mr Fuller was nearly 10lb off the pace...
