Rod licence runs out this weekend so don't get caught out, and as the fish move in the margins during yet another warm winter its red maggot over ground bait for a great days sport....

Max and Robbie Campbell with their duo of tench caught on red maggot, these two fish topped the scales at 10lb 12oz's from peg 33

The lovely Charlie Clark showing
her bag of silvers caught during the half term last month tipping the scale at
30lb from peg 33
Top Lake:
The bigger fish are now showing in the
margins which is handy because with the latest batch of gusty wind this has made
bait presentation a little difficult so between 5m and 7m and loose feeding
caster or maggot you are catching all things that are fishy, Father and son
pictured above done well in their latest club outing on the lake and a few tips
helped catch these bonus Tench which are a real weight booster under club match
conditions, The top weight on the day for the Hawthorns was 69lb of skimmers and
bream. The big carp are showing more as well now with the biggest fish of the
year so far being 25lb mirror caught by Martin from Hoddesdon and his best line
of attack is to marinate a pellet in a pineapple smelly and cast into open
water, other success stories have been garlic dipped pellets and dog biscuit
popped up from the bottom, pegs either side of the island are favourite at the
moment.

3 in a row club member Mark Shaughnessy
Bottom Lake:
Pictured above is our old mucker "Paddy
Shaugnessy", who has been missing from the match scene in the past few weeks due
to illness, so a few of us rallied round and went to see Mark and his brother,
in Mark's home town of Hemel, Mark has spent the past year dominating the
Saturday open scene and has left a lasting impression of exactly how this lake
can and should be fished, so a night out was ordered and mob handed we spilt
beer and necked some grub whilst "Basher Slade", or Peter to his fishing friends
entertained us with jokes and stories of years gone by, add that with stories of
fish that got away this evening was over before it began and we all left with
memories to be reflected upon in the weeks and years to come so on behalf of all
your fishing pals at Lake John we wish you all the best you are a true gent Mark
and a member of our very prestigious 3 in a row club.
The past few weeks on the lake have been a bit up and down but already this year
we have seen weights hit 98lb on a day the lake was frozen, and 50lb bags also
with average weights hitting 20lb to 30lb, and its sweetcorn that is doing the
business across to the far bank, pellet will get you a few bites down the track
or the other alternative is to fish the bread punch just like our old pal Peter
Slade and have a great days sport, the longer days mean that the fishing will
only be improving from week to week
