Its Ray all the way, the Hertfordshire man does the biz on golden peg 24...

When he is not cleaning windows chief time keeper Ray Webb is often seen on the lake catching a fish or two, Hoo-ray for the Ray.
16 fished
1st. Ray Webb, Oakwood Angling
golden peg 24 24-10-0,
Ray fished the tip today and boy this was bitter and with the first bite
coming at 1pm it was going to be a very difficult match, but Ray just kept under
arm lobbing his feeder into the open water and only taking his hands out of his
pocket when the tip wrapped round off the rest, only six proper bites produced
this match winning bag of common carp, golden boy Ray received a round of
applause for all his hard work.
2nd. Ken Farrell, Browning-Lake John
peg 11 14-08-0
Ken is still on form and now he is catching fish on the bottom lake as well,
so his win mid week on the top lake has kept him in good stead today, this was a
bitter day and from around 1pm it got worse, but the pellet produced a few fish
and this was good for second spot
3rd. Martin Amos, Elite Bits-Old Hatfield Angling

A day waiting for a few bites secured third spot for Martin and his pellet
approach to the far bank.

Martin is thinking of setting up a master class Saturday evenings for those that want to know more, its going to be a bit like detention for the Saturday slackers, only joking its for the free t-shirt next week...
1st. Martin Amos,
Elite Baits-Old Hatfield Angling
peg 17 30-15-0
Last week he drew 16 and now only one away on 17 this was the last peg in
the bag as the crowd in the cafe enjoyed Martin's stand off at the draw, I
wouldn't let him draw until the end, but take nothing away from the chap he is
doing well and here he is pictured above after the match showing a few other
anglers his baits and rigs, corn done the biz down the track and across to the
far bank, not too many fish but a steady days fishing, will you make it three in
a row Mr. Amos?
2nd. Mark Johnson, Simpsons of Turnford
peg 6 18-00-0
This was the winning peg two weeks ago when snooker ace Graham Cook done the
business, so Mark was in with a chance of a few fish and with his sweet corn and
pellet approach the bites weren't manic but they all count at this time of the
year and Mark did enough to cover his costs this week at least!
3rd. Peter Slade, Met Police
peg 9 15-15-0
Consistent if nothing else as Peter makes this his second Third place on the
bounce, which means that a win is not too far away, bread punch down the track
at 6m for all the bites the lake could offer.

This lake was an ice
over as light broke and Martin Amos managed to fall just 2lb short of the
magical 100lb, in February!!!!, but this is a summer weight...
16 fished

This was Martin's third and final visit to the scales with fish as we calculated
the final total to 98lb 4oz's, !! and this was just getting colder !!
1st. Martin Amos,
Elite Baits-Old Hatfield Angling
peg 16 98-04-0
Well this peg is always worth at least 100lb so Martin clearly messed this
peg up today, corn across to the far bank in the morning placing his float
through the ice and taking the odd carp from around the whole of his far bank
margin, when that went quiet it was a more conventional dripping of bait down
the centre track in the deeper water for a few better fish and the bites just
kept coming and so did the fish, but fancy not breaking the 100lb you wont sleep
tonight mate you have let yourself right down, and that serve's you right for
telling me that you might have 30lb you liar Amos...nearly a ton of fish!!
2nd. Roy Makins, GOT Baits
peg 11 23-02-0
A bit of a drop from the leading weight but this is what happens on carp
dominated venues the bigger fish gather in areas and in truth this is probably a
true reflection of how the lake fished as a whole, Roy has struggled most of the
match in the final hour has put a few fish in the net, it was his trusted GOT
pellets that produced a few bites on a peg that was covered in ice until 11.30am
so the peg couldn't be fished properly for the early part.
3rd. Peter Slade, Met Police
peg 6 12-08-0
This turned out to be a nice bright sunny day but for Peter he was in the
shade all match due to the sun not climbing above the hedge row and only
resulted in casting a shadow over him all match, Icy cold were the conditions
and so were the few bites Pete managed to convert into net fish and all this
happened in the dying stages of the match, well done Slade.

Graham Cook takes victory on this very low scoring event, and it was pellet down the track that done the job this week...
14 fished
1st. Graham Cook, Lake John
peg 6 16-08-0

Snooker ace Graham booked his ticket on the off chance that he could get to
the Saturday match as his tournament snooker has taken over his spare time at
the moment, and he is doing very well at it as well in his home town of Ware, a
quick de-brief on the phone and the temptation was too much to miss and it was
the far bank that let him down from the off that made Graham set his attack to
fish down the track and fish for bites and this proved to be a real 147 move
welcome back Mr. Cook, first match on the lake this year.
2nd. John Young, Lake John
Golden Peg 23 14-06-0
Last weeks winner John is really back on top of his game with this second
place, but he would have been so much better off if he had scooped victory this
week because the golden peg pot would have been going back to Tottenham but
alas, last week John caught down the centre but this was a different line of
attack as he fished corn across to the rushes, a slow match for all and the few
fish that were caught were like ice cubes thats how cold the water is at the
moment.
3rd. Scott Clark, Simpsons of Turn ford

The Three musketeers, John Young takes victory with his new pole whilst Mark and Martin follow up with second and third...
14 fished
1st. John Young,
Lake John
peg 24 50-08-0

A new life for the recently retired ageing Mr.young (pictured centre above),
pellet done the job down the centre track although there were a couple of fish
down the inner margin corner, John was pretty steady most of the match and the
fish in his peg were upper size 4lb'ers, no small carp, and with his new pole
sponsored to him by his ex-work pals, with these sort of weights John you should
have got that new pole years ago.
2nd. Mark Shaughnessy, Old Town Angling
peg 23 20-04-0
These two have swapped place's from last week and only ounce's separate them
this week with Mark (pictured top left) just sneaking the advantage, pellet
again across to the far bank, sitting next to the winner Mr. Young was never
going to be a enjoyable moment especially when he more than double's your
weight, but Paddy Mark wont let this bother him too much, this is only what he
has been doing to people here for the past year, today Mark was a bit of pay
back.

1st. Howard
Pringle, Magic Lakes
peg 1 33-04-0
Never too far out of the frame Howard has yet to win one until now, and this
peg is always good for a win and we know the angler can do it so it was just a
matter of time, pellet and corn across to the far bank proved the method right
on the edge of the far bank stick ups, small carp were plentiful during the
early part of the match until there was a real lean spell towards the end but it
didn't matter, but it was less than a pound that separated the top two.
2nd. Martin Amos, Elite Baits-Old Hatfield Angling
peg 12 32-12-0
This peg has had a bit of a drought in the past weeks, so with an angler in
form and a peg that's not, it was going to be interesting to see the out come,
corn is the best carp bait at the moment and its best fished across to the far
bank at 14m in places, small amount's of loose feed and then be patient that's
the trick the better fish will reward you, Martin also caught well early and
look how close this ended up.

A winner here the week before last and back in the frame just like the old
days for Martin fishing across to the far bank for the majority of the match
catching carp to 6lb until this line of enquiry dried up it was down the centre
track for a good last spell on the sweet corn, pictured above with his biggest
mirror of the day.
2nd. Mark Shaughnessy, Old Town Angling
peg 24 21-00-0
Mark was having a nightmare match with an almost bite less five hours it
looked like it was going to be an early bath until 30 minutes from the end when
Mark hooked nearly all his weight, pellet down the centre track.
3rd. Howard Pringle, Old Town Angling

1st. Peter Slade, Met Police
peg 16 24-10-0

Peter took to his peg knowing that this was the peg that won it last week,
he knew where it was fished and on what bait but after trying a known winning
formula Peter punched a piece of bread and proceeded to catch down the centre
track, using all his years of canal fishing experience he used a slowly slowly
approach and produced the goods, roach and skimmers along with a couple of bonus
carp to push the weight up, so bread is the new super bait happy new year to you
Mr. Slade...
2nd. Howard Pringle, Magic Lakes
peg 1 20-04-0
An occasional angler to the Saturday match scene this was a top draw today
and because of the consistency of the peg we have dropped it out of the draw for
several weeks to make for a more balanced match, because of the far bank reed
cover this peg will always be up there, corn was Howard's bait of choice and
this meant it was positive carp fishing which in my opinion was the right thing
to do and was nearly enough to secure the win...
3rd. Scott Clark, Simpsons of Turnford
peg 11 19-04-0
This boy is on form on both lakes at the moment and he's my partner in the
Milo pairs so how pleased am I, keep it up mate maggot today for the big man and
all fish counted from roach and perch to the bonus 4lb carp they all eat very
simple baits this time of the year, so its only the angler that makes catching
fish difficult.

peg 16 37-12-0

Ken Took the place apart this week with only hook bait not once did he feed
his peg and this assault was possible with the aid of a grain of corn to the
hook and that's it, hook a fish don't feed and then hook another one simple, who
said fishing was difficult, small carp to 4lb across to the far bank fishing
four lines, catch one rest and then try another line and then rotate it.
2nd. Martin Amos, Elite Baits-Hatfield Angling
peg 3 32-00-0
First last week it looks like the Man Amos is slipping down the ladder this
was the peg he won it from last week so you had to fancy that it was going to be
a fore gone conclusion that he would win again this week, sweet corn again
produced the better fish and there were a few fish that escaped the hook but
Martin was powerless against the veteran hero Farrell that made Lake John his
home water.
3rd. Roy Makins, GOT Baits-Fox Match

peg 3 16-08-0
This was the first match on the lake since the mid week ice over and for two
days this lake had a complete layer of ice over it, so the tactics were slowly,
slowly but amazingly enough Martin fished very positive on sweet corn and waited
for the better fish to move in and although the weights were low catching
anything was an achievement, small carp to the far bank margin.
2nd. Colin Bartlett, Lake John-J+B Tackle
peg 16 11-10-0
Looking for a bite was the first challenge and then looking for something to
build on there after, maggot to the hook and a sprinkling of micro pellet for
good measure, a long wait for the first bite and to be truthful is was just a
long wait for anything so to find this weight was received with gratitude
especially the bit where I just beat Mr. Makins by the slimmest of margins,
sorry Roy.

Roy has had enough fish on the hook to win the match today, but he didn't so

1st. Scott Clark, Simpsons of Turnford
peg 16 23-00-0
We have had loads of cold rain water in the lakes over the past couple of
days so the BIG man opted for the catch everything approach and that's the
beauty of maggot it will catch everything in the peg, small roach to start and
then a bonus 6lb carp early on made Scott's mind up there were very few fish
across so with the extra depth in the lake the inner margins were very
productive, champ again.
2nd. Mark Shaughnessy, Old Town Angling
peg 19 15-04-0
These two have been battling it out over the last couple of weeks swapping
there turn for first and second, well second spot for Mark was very nearly a
first because in the closing stages the fish were coming on strong and all big
Scott could do was watch as Mark just kept hooking fish but it was not to be
with daylight fading and the match times an hour shorter than in the summer this
was not Mark's day, pellet across to the far bank over a bed of micro pellet.

even the luck of the Irish run's out from time to time, one roach he wont like
me telling you that, anyway like a true champ he soon sorted out a few fish this

Considering there was a frost late last week this weight of fish is superb
for this time of the year and with the weather this unstable, Roy made it a low
feed approach fishing across to the far bank and down the centre track this
proved to be a constant flow of fish and with fish running to nearly 8lb he was
always going to feel like there was a chance of a victory and with the man of

allowed the golden peg to roll over for another week.

still on a roll across to the far bank tight as you can and plenty of feed,
micro pellet with a 4mm expander to the hook, smaller carp this week but still a
clear winner by nearly twenty pounds no less, Mark won't be here next week so
that's a chance for someone else to nab the spot light but it will be short
lived because he is back the week after so look out everyone.
2nd. Steve Goring, J+B Tackle
peg 3 38-12-0
A couple of bad results the past couple of weeks made it all worth while
this week with a bag of carp tight to the inner margins in peg 2, pellets were
again the preferred bait on the day, well done Steve.
3rd. John Young, Lake John
peg 24 35-00-0
John enjoyed a few fish on a day when the lake seemed to be very peggy these
weights were incredible when most of the lake struggled to maintain a pattern of
fish, I believe Mr Young has developed a new secret bait.
4th. Dave King, Debden Angling

14 fished
1st. Mark Shaughnessy, Old town Angling
peg 12 79-00-0
This paddy has been wiping the board for the last month, and this victory
made it four wins out of four so Mark joins the elite three in a row club plus
one good old boy, not only has he been winning here but last Sunday was his
fourth victory down the road at Magic Lakes so how's that for consistency, corn
is Marks biggest secret in the inner margins, that's it don't say I don't tell
you nothing, the feed in constant and the fish are plentiful 0.16 direct to the
hook and a 14 hook if you ask him he will tell you. should be banded this week
but if he wins again on Saturday i will give him a time penalty Promise!!!!
2nd. Dave King, Debden Angling
peg 10 41-00-0
Back into a few fish the Chingford driving instructor can catch a few and
with this being a golden peg this was nearly a big pay day, samll carp to the
pellet and corn
3rd. Ray Webb, Oakwood Angling
peg 8 40-00-0
My mate Uncle Ray defies all odds and flicks the feeder up close to the
island and bags up on small carp for a very near second spot.
4th. Tony Pennycook, Big John's Basildon
peg 19 34-12-0
5th. Scott Clark, Simpsons of Turnford
peg 14 34-10-0
6th. John Young, Lake John
